Friday Website Update

I found a temporary fix to my website problems. The latest podcast episode is now available.

The long version of what's going on:

I was having trouble in that my podcast plugin would not properly save the link to the episode file, no matter what I did. Because I had rather large problems with the website just a few months ago after upgrading Wordpress and a bunch of plugins which required me to request that the host restore a pre-updated backup of the site, I've decided that the only workable long-term solution is to completely rebuild the site from scratch. I own echozoe.org and echozoe.net in addition to echozoe.com, and have been working on rebuilding at echozoe.org. The posts have all been copied over, as well as a bunch of other backend stuff. I'm currently plotting along re-building the actual site design (there's no functional export/import function, so I have to do it all again by hand.)

In the mean time, I reversed the process of copying posts over to the new .org site. I got the latest podcast episode up there, and then exported the post & re-imported at the old/main site. That brought the podcast in without the errors I was getting before.

I will probably lose a little bit of the site in the rebuild, but it's nothing substantial. For example, the links on the right side are a carryover from about 15-18 years ago when blogrolls were a big thing. Wordpress hides the links creator now unless you already have links entered. Without the creator available, I can't rebuild the list. Probably for the best though, as they do become out-of-date, and sometimes linked ministries go off the deep end and I find I can no longer support them. Not having the list will save me the work of keeping them current.

The biggest trick to all of the fixing and rebuilding is that the podcast feed url has to remain functional. I can move it later, once the dust settles, but the old url has to remain functional so I can put the redirect to the new one in and have subscribers' podcast clients automatically update to the new url. I'm most concerned about breaking that, either during a rebuild, or in the changeover once I think the new site is ready.

Andrew Rappaport & Fred Butler: 2024 Roundtable

Andrew Rappaport and Fred Butler return for the sixth annual Roundtable. The three of us each brought a topic to discuss for roughly 20 minutes. We start with Andrew, who wanted to talk a little about "Christian Nationalism," primarily that he doesn't like the use of the term. Fred followed with a discussion of "Worldviews," which came out of his book on Apologetics. To finish, we talk about Christians participating in politics, primarily through voting, but also about other forms of participation.

Gene Clyatt: The Witch Trials

Gene Clyatt returns for a fourth installment of English Reformation history {at least in regard to the time-period.) Gene was first on with me in August of 2021, where he talked about the early days of the English Reformation under Henry the 8th and Bishop Thomas Cranmer. In the May, 2022 episode, Gene returned to talk about England under Queen Elizabeth I. Last November, he talked about England under King James I.

For this episode, we get into the Witch Trials. Gene gives some history on how they began, talks about how King James brought them to Scotland and England, and how they ended up in the American Colonies, with Salem being the best-known.
